On January 23, 2024, he was detained at home. On January 25, he was taken into custody as part of a case on participation in mass riots, opened in connection with the public gathering in Baymak on January 17 in support of activist Fail Alsynov. On February 7, 2025, Akhmetshin was sentenced to four and a half years in a general-regime colony.
