A resident of Nizhny Novgorod, Zevakhin is a former musician who later worked in the manufacture of safes. He was detained on 16 July 2024. A case was subsequently initiated against him for alleged participation in the activities of an extremist organisation, reportedly linked to his correspondence with an individual said to be associated with the Artpodgotovka political organisation, as well as for alleged incitement to terrorism based on comments he had posted on Vyacheslav Maltsev’s YouTube channel.

The correspondence reportedly involved a discussion about launching foil-covered balloons during the 9 May 2023 parade — the so-called “Heavenly Regiment” rally — supposedly to disrupt air defence operations. Zevakhin was taken into custody, and on 6 August 2025 he was sentenced to 4 years in a general-regime penal colony.

How to write the letter?

Getting started
What can I write about?
On censorship: what can’t I write?
Is it allowed to send photographs?
What language do I use in my letter?
What are the limits on sending letters?
Should I expect a reply and do I have to respond?
How do I maintain the correspondence?
I would like to send letters by myself, how do I do it?
How else can I support Russian dissidents?
It says that the prisoner I was assigned was tried for terrorism, or extremism or something else scary, what’s up with that?
